Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

You can order repeat prescriptions online:

  • Using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS app)
  • Fill out an online form
  • Using the GP online system - Patient Access

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • Request through your pharmacy
  • Bring the paper form to the surgery
  • Telephone the surgery

Acute Prescriptions

If you need medication that is not a repeat prescription this is an acute prescription.  Complete this online form with the information for your request.  This is a messaging service for the GP and is not to be used for acute urgent illnesses, which will still require a GP appointment.

The Clinician will then review the request and you will receive a text message with the result.

Acute prescription queries can take up to seven working days to process.

Nominating a pharmacy

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • Online, on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • At your GP practice
  • At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription 2 working days after you have ordered it.  Acute prescription queries can take up to seven working days to process.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine or your prescription please contact the surgery.  You can also complete an online form with your question.

Your local pharmacists can also answer any questions about your prescription. They can answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, they can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • Coughs
  • Colds
  • Sore throats
  • Tummy trouble
  • Aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.
